Today, we're going to help you apply for health care in Alberta and explain what you need to do to get your Alberta health card.
Getting health care in Canada might seem complicated, but it's actually not that hard. Each province in Canada has its own health care system, so you just need to understand the rules for your area. In Alberta, health care is provided through the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP).
Eligibility and process for AHCIP
- 1. If you're a legal immigrant in Canada, which includes temporary workers and students, you can get Alberta Health Care.
- 2. You can get this health care if you plan to live in Alberta for at least one year.
- 3. In the first year, you need to be in Alberta for at least 183 days.
- 4. You can't get health benefits from any other province, territory, or country during this time.
- 5. Even refugees and their family members can get Alberta Health Care if they have the right documentation and plan to stay in Alberta for a year or more.
